The Second CWE PO/MT
was conducted by IBPS on Sunday Jun 17, 2012. It was a paper based test. As
given in the notification the Part 1 had 250 Multiple Choice questions divided
into

There was a negative marking of one-fourth for every incorrect
answer restricting the candidate from indulging in guess work. There was no
negative marking for unanswered questions. Speed is the key as you have to
attend 250 questions in 150 minutes. A student has to score a certain minimum
marks in each section to clear the cut-offs even though there was no sectional
timing for the first five sections.

will be such that they do not require a specific study of any discipline.

Section 1: Reasoning
The question types in the reasoning section were very similar to the one
asked in the last CWE PO.

The questions types and number of questions were almost similar
to the ones asked in the last test. There were 10 questions on Non-Verbal
Reasoning of which 5 questions are from Series and another 5 questions are from
classification topic.
The Logical Reasoning
Question types had a set of 6-7 statements followed by questions where they had
to choose statements which were assumptions, inferences etc. where the
questions asked are a little difficult
with upgraded version of questions to make it little complex.
The syllogisms were quite straight forward and one could go
through them quickly.
The Question set based on Problem solving was a bit tricky and
time consuming.
The data sufficiency questions were moderately difficult. This
section was relatively difficult and time consuming.

The questions in DI area are not much tricky but consume time. The
Approximation and BODMAS questions were also straight forward with little more
calculation. The individual questions were based on Simple Interest – Compound
Interest, Arithmetic Progression, Ratios and Averages, Profit Loss,
Probability.

The General Awareness section had a focus on the Banking industry. There
were questions based on the National Film awards, Padma Bhushan, sports,
important schemes of the government, a few questions based on current affairs.
Overall, the questions were difficult.

The questions on Computers were difficult when
compared to the last years’IBPS CWE for PO.
The questions in this section were related to
the basic concepts of the computer, internet, operating system and the MS
office applications.
Questions were based on ALU, multi-media,
functions of a mouse, how to insert text box.
Questions based on internet were on cookies,
webmail, and phone call over the internet etc. Some questions were technical
related to the computer languages.
In general, this section is always a high scoring
one, but it is difficult when compared to other exams.
Section 5: English Language
10 Qs on Cloze passage (as against 15 Qs in
Sep 2011). Unlike Sep 2011 when there were no questions on grammar, this year's
paper had 15 Questions on Grammar. There were 10Qs on error identification.
Each question had a sentence broken into four
parts.
There were 5Qs on error correction.
Each question had a sentence with part of it in bold.
There was one passage of moderate difficulty
with 15 questions. The passage was about 900 words and there were 8
comprehension questions and 7 vocabulary questions (4 synonyms and 3 antonyms).
Part 2: Descriptive Writing
The total marks for this section were 50 marks
though it was mentioned that this section will have 25 marks in the IBPS
notification. The time given for this section was 60 minutes and one could
easily do a good job in the given time.
1. A letter writing exercise. the topics were:
(150 words)
- a. Write a letter to the local
authorities explaining the lack of educational facilities in your area
- b. Write a letter to your to
your younger brother or sister explaining the significance of Census
- c. Write a letter to the
newspaper editor sharing the significant role of the actions of a common
citizen to influence development of your area
- 2. Write an essay of around 250
words on the following topics:
- a. Growth of Banks in India
- b. Role of Micro-finance
institutions in the social development
- c. ‘Green’ Initiatives of Big
business houses
- 3. Précis Writing
- a. You had to read a passage
on Poverty Alleviation program and it success in India and write a précis
based on that.

DURING
THE TEST

information you are given and vice-versa.

to words like “all,” “some,” or “none” when you read the factual information
each question gives you

negative prefixes also, such as non-, un-, or dis-

to negative numbers when they are used in some questions

Pay close attention to
the word “ONLY” and to the phrase “IF AND ONLY IF”
